Trail #261A Sunrise Peak

This trail is open to hiker use only.
This very short steep trail takes you to the top of Sunrise Peak, where you can still see evidence of the old fire lookout. Sunrise Peak, 5,880 feet, is the highest summit on the Cowlitz Valley District. From the summit, you will get views of Mt. Adams, Mount St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, and on a clear day, Mt. Hood. This trail is acccessed via Juniper Ridge Trail #261 near it's intersection with Sunrise Trail #262.

Sunrise Peak is made of a type of molten rock that cooled below the earth's surface. This rock was exposed by hundreds of years of erosion, stripping away the layers of rock that used to blanket this area.
