Trail #129 Huffman Peak
The Huffman Peak trail branches off the Siouxon Trail #130 about 0.75 miles east from the newly designated trailhead along Forest Road 5701. The trail passes through forests, meadows, and rocky slopes. It transverses the side of Huffman Peak and connects with the North Fork Siouxon Trail #126. Views of Mount St. Helens, Mt. Hood, Swift Reservoir, Mt. Rainier, and Mitchell Peak are available to those traveling this trail.
Beginning from Siouxon Trail #130, 0.75 mile east of the first access point along Forest Road 5701, Huffman Peak Trail #129 branches off Siouxon Trail, dropping down steeply for about 0.5 mile to Siouxon Creek. The trail then climbs northeastward for 4 miles and intersects with North Fork Siouxon Trail #126, which is on state land. Huffman Peak Trail traverses the side of Huffman Peak, then follows the saddle for about 1.5 miles toward Siouxon Peak. The trail continues for about 0.5 miles to a junction with Chinook Creek Trail #130A, east of Siouxon Peak, which heads south to meet the Siouxon Trail #130. Huffman Peak continues for another 0.5 miles before ending on Road 216.
A fire lookout was once perched on the 4,106-foot summit of Huffman Peak. The lookout was built in 1932 and was abandoned when fire watchers took to the sky in small planes.
