Site: Hemlock Picnic Area

This site on Trout Creek offers a covered picnic area and viewing platform at a steelhead recovery site on the historic Wind River Nursery and Hemlock CCC Camp. This is a great jumping off point for more strenuous hikes and adventures, but also an easy place to experience nature and history.

This shaded and pleasant picnic site on Trout Creek offers a covered area with picnic tables and a   viewing platform on the Wind River. The river is experiencing change and regeneration after the removal of Hemlock dam.  The viewing platform adjacent to the river provides a unique opportunity to observe the recovery process. The site is near the historic Wind River Work Center and is close the accessible Whistle Punk Trail #59.

General Information

Directions:

From Carson, WA take the Wind River Highway (SR 30) north to Hemlock Road and turn right on Forest Road 43. The site is on the left just as you turn onto Forest Road 43.


Accessibility:

This site offers flat access to the picnic area, viewing platform and bridge overlooking the dam removal site and floodplain restoration. There are vault toilets, covered picnic tables and a paved path. The old Wind River Ranger Station and tree farm offer a view into history. Keep your eyes out for the elk herd often seen in the area.
