Recreation Rental: Peterson Prairie Cabin

In a mature and varied forest setting interspersed with mountain meadows and geographic features, this park is near the Indian Heaven Wilderness. Here visitors will find access to trails leading to remote forest lakes, high-mountain elevations and some of the most spectacular country found anywhere.

Permit Info: A valid Washington State Sno-Park Permit is required December 1 to March 31. Sno-Park permits are available to purchase online and also at Ashford Valley Grocery in Ashford, Trout Lake Grocery in Trout Lake and the Chelatchie Prairie General Store in Amboy.
  • Sno-park permits help pay for snow removal, trail grooming, sanitation facilities, mapping, trail signs, safety education, enforcement and program administration.

Restrictions: Motorized vehicles are not allowed in the adjacent Indian Heaven Wilderness.
  • Violations of 36 CFR 261 may result in confiscation of equipment and fines up to $5,000.00, and/or six months in jail.

Directions:

From Stevenson, WA, take State Route 14 east  to Wind River Highway (Forest Road 30) and go north to the junction with Forest Road 6507.


Accessibility:

This site is in a remote forest setting. The parking area is flat, but terrain will be difficult, especially in winter.

Cabin Rentals

The site is located along Forest Road 24 and is easily accessed by snowmobile, snow shoes or skiing. It is a 2 mile trip from the Atkisson Sno-Park during the winter. You can drive to the site as soon as the snow is gone. There is a great place to pick huckleberries next to the site. Hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, and mushroom and huckleberry picking activities are abundant during the snow-free months (typically June through October). The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, Indian Heaven Wilderness, and Mt. Adams Wilderness are all within easy driving distance, offering miles of trails and beautiful scenery.
