Trailhead: Tatoosh North

Area Status: Open

Provides north access to: Trail #161 Tatoosh which enters Tatoosh Wilderness.  Parking space is limited at the trailhead.

Current Conditions: 7/5/24: Lots of snow beyond the junction with 161A. Not recommended to attempt to hike down to lake until snow melts. Hazards as rapid melt off occurs under surface of snow. 
Fees: No fee.
Permit Info: Wilderness permits are required. The self-issuing permits are free and are available at trailheads and Forest Service Ranger Stations.

Restrictions:
  • Wilderness Regulations apply.
  • Camping and campfires are prohibited within Tatoosh Lakes Basin.
  • Pack and Saddle stock are prohibited on the Tatoosh Lakes Trail #161B due to the steep grades and poor condition of the trail. 
  • Stock are also prohibited within Tatoosh Lakes Basin.

Directions:

From Packwood, WA take Forest Road 52 (Skate Creek Road) and follow for 4 miles then take a right on Forest Road 5270 and follow about 7 miles to the trailhead.
