Gold Dust Trail

Area Status: Open
This area is Open

2.5 miles of this trail was logged in the summer of 2017. This hike is a quick access into Whitewater Canyon from Whitewater Mesa.

From the trailhead users will start heading southeast along the trail.  This trail keeps a fairly even grade for the first 1 ½ miles, with minor changes in gradient, after Slaughter Canyon the trail remains at a pretty even grade until the last ¼ mile where it drops down though some steep switchbacks into Whitewater Canyon.  Equestrian users should be aware that there a few stretches where the trail is on solid rock and several of the switchbacks have a small turning radius; this may not be the best trail for inexperienced horses or riders.

Trail users will be get to enjoy a pleasant hike/ride though grassland with scattered  pinyon and juniper trees.  The trail is fairly open with few good shade trees, so this is not the trail to pick in the heat of summer.  With cooler temperatures you will get to enjoy great views of Whitewater Canyon and Whitewater Mesa.
