This is a nice quiet undeveloped campground amongst ponderosa pines and abundant wildlife.
Apache Creek Campground is in the northwest region of the forest. There are plenty of trees to provide shade and this is a very clean campground.

General Information
Directions:Apache Creek Campground is located approximately 12 miles northeast of Reserve on the south side of New Mexico Highway 12. Just past mile marker 19, turn south onto Forest Road 94 (Cox Canyon Rd.). Apache Creek Campground is located on the right side of the road.

This is a good spot for those with RVs and travel trailers. There are no hookups, but plenty of room. There is room for RVs under 40'.

Day Hiking
Trail #16 - Apache Creek Interpretive Trail is located nearby. Travel roughly 0.5 mile southeast on FR 94 taking the first left past the Apache Creek Campground onto Forest Road 4033 R. The trailhead head is located roughly 0.2 mile east on 4033 R on the north side of the road. Trail #16 is an easy one mile loop hike.

Viewing Wildlife
This is a popular destination for birdwatchers. There are many different species and the tall mature ponderosa pines provide a good habitat for the birds. There are also elk in the area.

There are some great rockhounding opportunities here. Rockhounders have reported finding Agate, Banded Agate, Bloodstone, Bytownite, Calcite, Chalcedony, Crystaline, Fire Agate, Geodes, Golden Luna Agate, Halite, Hematite, Hypersthene, Jasper, Labrodorite, Lava's, Luna Blue Agate, Obsidian, Perlite, Plume Agate, Quartz Crystals, Spotted Agate, and Thunder Eggs to name a few.
