This high elevation trail offers hikers spectaculars views of the Gila Wilderness.

This trail is known as the Crest Trail because it generally follows the crest of the Mogollon Mountains from Sandy Point to Mogollon Baldy. Most of this trail is in old growth mixed conifer and offers some of the most spectacular views of the Gila National Forest. There is a fire lookout tower located at Mogollon Baldy.

The closest town is Glenwood (25 miles) from trailhead. Services available: lodging, gas, food and phone. Alma (21 miles from trailhead). Services available: gas, diesel, phone, cafe.

Water Notes:
Bead Sspring- generally a good reliable spring. Hummingbird Spring- fluctuates from dry to good.

Directions:

The trailhead is located by traveling from Silver City to Glenwood via Highway 180. Go north out of Glenwood 5 miles to Highway 159. Take Highway 159 to Sandy Point (approximately 20 miles or 1 hour).
