Hapgood Pond

Hapgood Pond Recreation Area offers camping, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and hiking among the tranquil surroundings of Hapgood Pond.  The pond itself is 12 acres in size and 12 feet at its deepest point. The recreation area offers a 28-site campground in a wooded setting, a 1 mile nature trail, and a day use area with a beach for swimming. No lifeguard is on duty; swim at your own risk.

At a Glance

Operational Hours: Campground and Day-Use only available during open season. During open season, dy-use area is open from 6:00 - 10:00 pm.
Reservations: Reservations for campsites and pavillion rentals can be made online at recreation.gov. Reservations must be made 4 days in advance. Campground sites 1-8 are available on a first come, first served basis.

Fees Day-use fees, payable the self-service fee station at the entrance gate.:
  •  $5.00 per vehicle.
  • Walk-ins and bicyclers have a reduced fee.
Camping fees, payable at the camping self-service fee station:
  • $20.00 per site per night.
Permit Info: Additional state liscense and registration fees are required for fishing and boating. All persons 15 years and older are required to possess a Vermont Fishing license. Licenses are available at town halls, most sporting goods stores and at many convenience stores near popular fishing areas.
Open Season: Memorial Day - Columbus Day
Restrictions:
  • 8 people maximum per site
  • Checkout time is 2:00 PM
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times
  • Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  • Maximum stay is 14 days in a 30-day period

Restroom: Flush - All campground facilities are vault toilets.
Passes: Season passes are availble for Hapgood Pond that allow unlimited day-use access throughout the open season.  Season pass prices:
  • $35.00 standard price
  • $17.50 with Interagency Senior/Access Pass discount 
  • $20.00 for second vehicle pass within the same household ($10.00 with Interagency Senior/Access Pass)

General Information

Directions:

From Route 7 in Manchester, take Route 11 east for approximately 7.5 miles, past the Route 11 and 30 junction. Continuing east on Rte 11, pass Bromley Ski Area and turn left into the town of Peru. Turn left onto Hapgood Pond Road;

From Route 100 in Londonderry, take Rte. 11 west for about 7.5 miles and turn right into the town of Peru. Take Hapgood Pond Road north out of town;- Drive about 1.5 miles north on Hapgood Pond Road and then turn left into Hapgood Recreation Area. At the gate please pay the appropriate fees. Take a left after the gate to find the parking area.


Accessibility:

Within the camping area there are 4 accessible vault toilets. There is a wheelchair accessible fishing area available at Hapgood Pond.


General Notes:

Hapgood Pond Recreation Area was the first land acquired that now makes up part of the Green Mountain National Forest. The Civilian Conservation Corps built many of the original facilities from 1936 through 1938.

RV Camping

There are 28 campsites available, each with a cleared tenting area, a picnic table, a fire ring with grill, and a parking spur. Most sites can accommodate small to medium campers/trailers as well as tents.

Within the camping area there are 4 accessible vault toilets and 4 fountains available for drinking water. There is also a bathhouse with flush toilets and showers, 2 pavilions, a wheelchair accessible fishing area, and a hand-carry boat launch. A dumpster for rubbish is available for camping guests.

Volunteer campground host is generally available to assist visitors and answer questions.
