Little Robinson #850

The Little Robinson Trail #850 begins at the Little Robinson Trailhead at the end of Forest Service Road 709, Coal Creek Road, and ends at an intersection with the Peter Creek Trail #856 and the Soap Creek Trail #443. As the trail exits the trailhead, it travels through scrub oak for about the first mile which is outside the West Elk Wilderness Area. Soon after entering the wilderness, it descends down and crosses Little Robinson Creek and climbs the opposite bank.  At this point it intersects the Kaufman Creek Trail #852, stay to the left to follow the Little Robinson Trail. The trail passes through groves of aspen, spruce/fir and small open parks, paralleling Little Robinson Creek most of its length. This trail is a gradual climb averaging an 8% slope, it is well-marked and once it reaches its end it provides access to Sheep Lake and Soap Basin. Water and camping are abundant.
