The Matterhorn Cabin is a great destination for anything from a family reunion to a week-long ski trip. This modern facility offers comfortable accommodations for groups of 12 or more and is available in winter only. Located just off the highway, it is easily accessible by passenger cars and is only 15 miles from the town of Telluride. Matterhorn Cabin Brochure

General Information

Directions:

From Telluride, drive 3 miles west on the State Hwy 145 Spur.

At the roundabout, turn left onto Hwy 145 and proceed approximately 10 miles south. Turn left at the Matterhorn Cabin sign into the cabin parking area (300 yards past the Matterhorn Campground).


General Notes:

This 1800-square foot cabin has electricity, running water, a furnace, woodstove, and washer/dryer. It comfortably sleeps 12 people in the five bedrooms (2 twin bunk beds/mattresses each) and upstairs t.v. room (1 double sleeper couch). The kitchen has a refrigerator, an electric oven, a microwave oven, washer/dryer, cookware, dishes, and utensils. The two bathrooms have flush toilets and showers. Cell phone reception is unreliable but the cabin’s landline phone is available for local calls. Cleaning supplies, garbage bags, toilet paper, dish soap, and a garbage dumpster are provided. Winter parking is limited to 6 vehicles per party.

Bring food, sleeping bags, pillows, bath towels, and toiletries.

Winter

Ski right from the cabin door onto groomed cross-country ski trails! Neighboring the cabin is a groomed cross-country ski area that offers 10 kilometers of groomed trails for classic skiing, skate skiing, and snowshoeing. An additional 10 kilometers of groomed trails are just a 3-mile drive away near Trout Lake.

The Telluride Ski Area, a destination ski resort, is just a 15-minute drive from the cabin, offering world-class skiing and snowboarding. Snowmobilers will enjoy the convenience of riding in the meadows on Lizard Head Pass (3 miles away), or on groomed trails in the nearby Alta Lakes area. Local guide services offer heli-skiing, snowmobiling, backcountry skiing, and ice climbing trips. 

Summer

Guests can mountain bike right from the cabin door, connecting to the Galloping Goose Trail which ties into a network of 50+ miles of bike trails near Telluride. The area is a hiker’s paradise, offering a multitude of trails within a short drive. Trail access into the Lizard Head Wilderness is just 3 miles away, offering day hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding opportunities. Those who enjoy 4X4 driving and riding will find challenging terrain on the Ophir, Black Bear, and Imogene jeep roads. The large meadow adjacent to the cabin is ideal for family gatherings and weddings. Every summer weekend Telluride holds one or more festivals, including such premier events as the Telluride Film Festival and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Local guide services offer guided jeep tours, rock climbing, mountain biking, fishing, and rafting.

  • No smoking in the cabin
  • Guests are expected to clean the cabin before leaving.
