Dave Wood Ski Trails

Approximately 4.4 miles or 7 Km of ski trails occur within the Dave Wood Winter Recreation Area (Map).  It is located 15 miles southwest of Montrose, Colorado on the gentle slopes of the Uncompahgre Plateau. Elevations range from 8,000 feet at the forest boundary to 8,400 feet at the highest point on the cross-country ski trail system.  The area is dominated by aspen and pondersosa pine trees with thick pockets of gamble oak and sagebrush in the lower elevations. The trails are ungroomed but marked by level of difficulty from Elana Miles Area and Branson Loop (easiest), Happy Hollow and Walker Area (more difficult) to Plantation Alley ( most difficult). Dave Wood Road is plowed to the parking area and passable to most vehicles. Four-wheel drive is recommended. All trails begin at Forest Trail #131.1 and end at Forest Trail #131.1. Trails are open for Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
