Farris Creek #409

  

The Farris Creek Trail #409 begins at Forest Service Road 740, Cement Creek Road, across from the Cement Creek Guard Station. It is split into two sections, the southern portion stops at FSR 736, Farris Creek Road. Follow FSR 736 for about 2.5 miles and the Farris Creek Trail #409 will pick up again and continue for another 1.5 miles and ends at FSR 738, Brush Creek Road. The trail climbs quickly for the first mile to the “Caves” and provides great views and exploration opportunities of the Caves. From there the trail climbs through meadows and aspen forests to 10,000 ft. (1,240 ft. gain); then descends through pine and aspen forests and rocky scree fields to Farris Creek Road. The trail continues on from the end of Farris Creek Road which is a steep downhill section, use caution when crossing Brush Creek epically in the spring. After the creek crossing there is a short steep uphill climb before coming to an end at FSR 738.

Brush Creek Road Access:

From Crested Butte: Travel south on Hwy 135 for approximately 1.8 miles to the intersection with County Road 738, Brush Creek Road. CR 738 becomes FSR 738 at the National Forest boundary. Turn left onto CR 738 and continue for approximately 6.5 miles to where the trail begins on the south side of the road.

Cement Creek Road Access:

From Crested Butte: Travel south on Hwy 135 for approximately 6.5 miles to the intersection with County Road 740, Cement Creek Road. CR 740 becomes FSR 740 at the National Forest boundary. Turn left onto CR 740 and continue for approximately 1.8 miles to the trail beginning on the north side of the road across from the Cement Creek Guard Station.
