Low Line #438

The Low Line Trail #438 begins at the intersection with the Cliff Creek Trail #840, crosses onto the Gunnison Ranger District and ends at the Gunnison National Forest boundary off Gunnison County Road 727.  The trail is well defined and has good tread as it passes through open stands of aspen and conifer trees, eventually leading users through alpine meadows and parks.  These parks are dotted with numerous species of wild flowers. In the early morning and evenings, deer and elk may be seen grazing on the distant hillsides. The views include Anthracite Mountain to the east and East Beckwith Peak to the west, along with a bird’s eye view of the Cliff Creek drainage.  The first approximately 2.5 miles of the trail are in the West Elk Wilderness where wilderness regulations apply.
