Horseshoe Basin #107


The Horseshoe Basin Trail #107 begins and ends at intersections with the Traver Mesa Trail #111. The entire length of this trail is in the Roubideau Area which was designated by Congress in 1993 as a wilderness study area to be undeveloped and closed to motorized or mechanized use. The trail follow along the west side of Roubideau Creek for about 0.8 miles before turning southwest and paralleling Traver Creek. After about 1.6 miles, it crosses Trever Creek and switchback out of the draw onto Horseshoe Basin.  It turns east and crosses East Basin and at about 4.25 miles it descends again to Roubideau Creek.  It crosses Roubideau Creek at about 5.8 miles and climbs the eastern canyon wall. It turns north and travels along Roubideau Bench for another 2 miles to its end at the Traver Trail.

Directions:

From Delta: Turn west on Highway 348, 6th Street. Travel west and south on HWY 348 for approximately 4 miles to 25 Mesa Road. Continue on 25 Mesa Road for approximately 18 miles the National Forest Boundary where 25 Mesa Road becomes Forest Service Road #503. Continue on FSR #503 for approximately 9.3 miles to FSR #402, Divide Road. Turn east on FSR #402 and continue for approximately 5.9 miles to FSR #534, Travel Road. Turn northeast onto FSR #534 and continue for approximately 5 miles to the intersection with the Roubideau Pack Trail #544. Turn northwest on the Roubideau Trail for 0.1 miles and turn north on the Traver Trail #119. Follow the Traver Trail for approximately 3.4 miles to its intersection with the Traver Mesa Trail #111. Follow the Traver Mesa Trail #111 east for approximately 1.7 miles to its intersection with the Horseshoe Basin Trail.

From Montrose: Travel west on Highway 90 for approximately 23 miles to the intersection with Forest Service Road #402, Divide Road. Follow FSR #402 for approximately 11.5 miles to FSR #534. Turn north onto FSR #534 and continue for approximately 5 miles to the intersection with the Roubideau Pack Trail #544. Turn northwest on the Roubideau Trail for 0.1 miles and turn north on the Traver Trail #119. Follow the Traver Trail for approximately 3.4 miles to its intersection with the Traver Mesa Trail #111. Follow the Traver Mesa Trail #111 east for approximately 1.7 miles to its intersection with the Horseshoe Basin Trail.
