Red Mountain Mining Overlook is a popular stopping point on the San Juan Scenic Byway (State Highway 550) between Durango, CO and Ouray, CO. Spectacular views of mountains, old mining structures and interpretive displays entice visitors to spend time at the Overlook. There are no facilities provided.

General Information
Directions: Travel south from Ouray, CO approximately 8 miles on State Highway 550. The highway has many switchbacks before this Overlook. Pass through Ironton Park. When you see an old mining building on your left, the turn is immediately to the right. Turn right at the Overlook sign into parking area.
