About Ridge Interpretive Trail:

  • Located within Brevoort Lake Campground
  • On an ancient Lake Michigan dune
  • Self-guided
  • Half-mile
  • Easy to moderate hike
  • Requires climbing and descending
  • At the end of the trail, wipe your shoes to avoid spreading invasive species to other parts of the Forest.

What is an Interpretive Trail?

Interpretive trails have information (signs or brochures) to explain the type of things you will see along the way. For the Ridge Interpretive Trail, a brochure is offered that explains the Forest landscape along the trail.

A short list includes:

  • Red pine – many were planted in the 1930s by the CCC.
  • Hemlock trees which can live as many as 600 years.
  • The Michigan State Tree – can you name what it is?
  • Blueberry patch – blueberries grow all around the sandy areas near the pine trees.
  • Red maple – the most colorful trees in the Fall.
  • Brevoort Lake Overlook – which looks north at Boedne Bay of Brevoort Lake. The 4,230-acre lake is controlled by a dam.
