North Country National Scenic Trail - East Zone
The North Country National Scenic Trail (NCT) runs from New York to North Dakota and is approximately 4,600 miles long, crossing the Upper Peninsula Michigan.
The portion of the NCT within the east zone of Hiawatha National Forest winds through 83 miles of both the Sault Ste Marie and St Ignace Ranger Districts in the eastern Upper Peninsula.
- The terrain is relatively flat and includes hardwoods and pinelands.
- Volunteers from local chapters of the North Country National Scenic Trail Association (NCTA) work to build and maintain this section.
- The trail is blazed with blue markers.
- Numerous road crossings make convenient trail access points to different sections of the trail.
- Parking is at your own risk if the trail access point is not designated on the map as a parking area.
