Shore-to-Shore State Horse Trail

Shore to Shore Campgrounds and Trailheads

The trail begins in Empire near Lake Michigan, on the west side of the state and ends at Lake Huron on the eastern side of the state. The trail passes under I-75, north of Grayling, and then continues eastward to follow the historic Au Sable River to its end in Au Sable, just south of Oscoda. 112 miles of trail run through the Huron portion of the Huron-Manistee National Forests.

Campground Camping

The campgrounds are spaced 25 miles apart along the trail.  All single sites are first come, first served at Luzerne, McKinley and South Branch Campgrounds.

The group sites at Luzerne and McKinley are first come, first served.  The group site at South Branch Trailcamp requires a reservation from Mid-May to Mid-September.

River Road Trail Camp is open by reservation only.  Please call the Huron Shores Ranger Station for information.
