OHV/ATV/Motorcycle Trails

The Big "O" OHV Trail provides 36-miles of highway legal motorcycle trail riding. The trail traverses flat to rolling hills and goes through areas ranging from heavily forested with oak, maple and pine with a shrub, grass and fern understory to open meadows. There are several bridge crossings along the route.

This trail is shown on the Huron-Manistee National Forests Motor Vehicle Use Map, available in the Maps and Publications section.  A map is also located on the MI-DNRE website.

Permit Info: Special Use Permit -
  • No special use permit is required for individuals or small groups (74 people or less).
  • Permits are required for commercial, event or large groups (75 people or more).
Visit the Passes and Permits section for more information on obtaining a special use permit. ORV Sticker - OHVs must display a valid ORV Sticker as required by State law. ORV Stickers may be obtained from the State of Michigan.

Restrictions:  As a visitor to the National Forest, you are asked to follow certain rules designed to protect the Forest, natural resources and to provide for public safety of visitors. These rules are available to you on-line or at any office of the Huron-Manistee National Forests. Please take time to read and understand them. General Topic orders apply across the Forests. Applicable Orders -
  • Motorized Vehicle Use of Roads, Trails and Off-road Areas
  • Occupancy and Use - Developed Recreation Areas, Dispersed Areas, Being Publicly Nude, Marine Prohibitions, Parking and Sanitation
Allowed - Highway Legal Motorcycles <=40" Prohibited - Non-Highway legal vehicles < 40" in width, motorized over-snow vehicles, motorized vehicles; 40" in width

From Baldwin -

County Line Big "O" Trailhead

  • Travel south on M-37 for 5 miles.
  • Turn right and travel west on 96th St. for 4.5 miles.
  • Turn right and travel north on Osborne Ave. for .33 miles.
  • Turn left and travel west on 18 Mile/96th Street for 3 miles.
  • The site is located on the left.

32nd. St. Trailhead

  • Travel north on M-37 for 2.5 miles.
  • Turn left and travel on 32nd. St. for 2.5 miles.
  • The road terminates at the trailhead.
