Huron ORV Trail

During the winter much of the trail doubles as the Iosco County Snowmobile Trail. This is an out and back trail system, there are no loops.

This trail is shown on the Huron-Manistee National Forests Motor Vehicle Use Map, available in the Maps and Publications section. A map is also located on the MI-DNRE website.

Permit Info: Special Use Permit -
  • No special use permit is required for individuals or small groups (74 people or less).
  • Permits are required for commercial, event or large groups (75 people or more).
Visit the Passes and Permits section for more information on obtaining a special use permit. ORV Sticker - OHVs must display a valid ORV Sticker as required by State law. ORV Stickers may be obtained from the State of Michigan.

Liberty Rd. ORV/Snowmobile Trailhead

  • Travel west on M-55 for 14.7 miles.
  • Turn right and travel north on M-65 for 13 miles.
  • Turn left and travel west on Wicket Rd. for 3 miles.
  • Turn right and travel north on Liberty Rd. for .25 miles.
  • The site is located on the right.

Sand Lake ORV/Snowmobile Trailhead

  • Travel west on M-55 for 9 miles.
  • Turn right and travel north on Sand Lake Rd. for 3 miles.
  • Turn left and travel west on Indian Lake Rd. for 2 miles.
  • Turn left and travel north on Vaughn Rd. for .75 miles.
  • The site is located on the right.

From Oscoda -

River Road ORV Trailhead

  • Travel west on River Rd. for 13 miles.
  • The site is lcoated on the left.

Grass Lake Rd. ORV/Snowmobile Trailhead

  • Travel west on River Rd. for 2 miles.
  • Turn left and travel south on Grass Lake Rd. for .5 miles.
  • The site is lcoated on the right.
