Brown County D Trail

A straight flat area of the trail shoots through a stand of pines.

This multiple-use trail links trails on the Brown County State Park and Yellowwood State Forest to the Hoosier National Forest.  The trail ties in with a county road which then has a short piece along the road down the Nebo Ridge Trail.  This 2.0-mile trail ties together several of the area's most popular trails.

Directions:

Take Ind. 135 to the intersection in Story.  Travel west 2.7 miles on Elkinsville Road to Blue Creek Road.  Turn Right onto Blue Creek Road and travel 2.3 miles to the end of the road.  The trailhead is located on the north side at the end of Blue Creek Road.

Activities

Mountain Biking

This is a popular mountain bike trail because it links the Nebo Ridge Trail on the Hoosier with trails on Brown County State Park and Yellowwood State Forest.

Permit: Hoosier NF Permits required on National Forest. IDNR permits are required for riding on DNR land. 

Backpacking

The 2.0 mile connector on the Hoosier National Forest of the D trail ties into the longer section of the D Trail on Yellowwood State Forest and on into the Brown County State Park.  It also connects to the Tecumseh Trail, one of the longer trails in Indiana.  Hikers and backpackers can connect from this trail down to a county road and on to the Nebo Ridge Trail and the Nebo's two trailheads.

Horse Riding

The D Trail connector ties the Hoosier NF in with longer horse trails in Brown County State Park and in Yellowwood State Forest.  People can ride several loops in these state areas, then down over the D Trail on the Hoosier, along a county road and then ride the Nebo Ridge Trail.

Hoosier National Forest trail permits are required.
