Hardin Ridge Camper

The 1,200 acre Hardin Ridge recreational complex is located on the shores of Monroe Reservoir. Located just southeast of Bloomington, the area is easily accessible from State Highway 446. The area offers camping, picnicking, boat launching, swimming, nature walks, and interpretive programs in a forested environment. For a downloadable brochure click here.

NO HUNTING IS ALLOWED WITHIN THE RECREATION AREA!

At a Glance

Operational Hours:
  • Open for hiking and other activities 24 hours/day year-round
  • Campsites available beginning April 15th until November 1st. 
  • Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am 
Reservations: Campground reservations are required.
Fees Fees are required for use from 4/15 - 10/31. The fees are:
  • 5/vehicle/day fee for day use in the area, or
  • An Annual permit for use of the Hardin Ridge Recreation Area can be purchased for $35. America the Beautiful Access and Senior discounts are honored. 
  • For pass holders, the annual fee is $17.50/year  for $2.50/day.  
  • Buses are $5 for the driver plus $1/person - no passes accepted.
Firewood is available (1 cu foot bundles) for $5.
Permit Info:
  • Passes are required for entry and reservations are required for camping.
  • Indiana state fishing permits are required for fishing. 
  • Boaters are required to follow Indiana state boat operating and registration requirements. 
Other recreation activities do not require a recreation permit.
  • There is a 2-mile hike and bike trail that parallels the campground road, running between the camping areas and to the beach. It is the only trail on the Hoosier where bicycles can be ridden without a trail permit.

Restrictions: A complete list of US Forest Service rules and regulations are posted on bulletin boards in the campground.
  • No hardwood firewood may be brought in to the recreation area unless it has been certified by the USDA.

Restroom: Some vault and some flush
Passes:
  • All visitors must purchase a daily use pass or annual pass for use during the recreation season (April 15-October 15).
  • You can view how to purchase as pass online or from the gatehouse when you arrive. 
  • Instructions are provided on-site if the gatehouse is not staffed.
  • Day passes and annual passes are good for use Hardin Ridge, Tipsaw Lake and Indian-Celina Recreation Areas

General Information

Directions:

Hardin Ridge is just west of State Route 446 on the south side of Lake Monroe. The recreation area is southeast of Bloomington and can be accessed by taking State Road 46 to State Road 446 then south to Chapel Hill Road where signs will direct you in to the recreation site. From Bedford, take US 50 east to State Road 446, then north to Chapel Hill Road. GPS Coordinates: Lat - 39 degrees 0' 36.296"N, Long- 86 degrees 25' 42.812"W
