The Sycamore Trail is a hiking-only trail within the Charles C. Deam Wilderness area. Wilderness designation places this area in a special legal status (subject to the 1964 Wilderness Act). It is managed to preserve a natural condition and provide opportunities for solitude. The 4.9 mile hiking trail provides hikers a place to hike away from horse riders to enjoy the solitude of the Wilderness.

Restrictions: No motorized or wheeled vehicles including bicycles or carts are allowed in this area or horses allowed on this trail. Parking is allowed along Tower Ridge Road in only three locations: Blackwell Horse Camp, Grubb Ridge Trailhead, and the Hickory Ridge Fire Tower. Hunting is permitted in the Wilderness but target shooting or practicing is not allowed. Group size is limited to 10 people or less.

General Information

Directions: Take State Route 446 south from State Route 46 out of Bloomington and turn at Tower Ridge Road. You will see a sign for the Charles C. Deam Wilderness and the Maumee Boy Scout Camp. It is a gravel road. The Wilderness boundary begins just a few hundred feet down this road and continues for several miles. Please get a map before visiting this area as the boundaries are not clearly marked.
