Lundy Canyon Trail


Lundy Canyon Fall 2012

A steep climb past several cascading waterfalls leads to Lake Helen on the Lundy Canyon trail. After Lake Helen more moderate terrain is found in the 20 Lakes Basin. Trails circle toward Saddlebag Lake and to the foot of North Peak and Mount Conness on the Yosemite National Park Boundary.

Common Destinations: Shamrock Lake, Steelhead Lake, Saddlebag Lake Trail

Rentals & Guides: Guiding in Hoover wilderness is by Yosemite Mountaineering School.
Permit Info: Wilderness permits are required for overnight trips into the Hoover Wilderness. Day use does not require a permit. Permits are issued at Inyo National Forest visitor centers. Lundy Canyon trail is non quota, reservations are not needed.

Restrictions: - Food and refuse must be stored so that animals cannot get into the food or trash.
- Groups cannot be larger than 15 people (includes day use).
- Guiding in Hoover wilderness is by Yosemite Mountaineering School.
- This area is near Bighorn Sheep habitat. Use of pack goats is not advised in order to protect the health of the wild sheep.
- Hoover Wilderness regulations apply.
- Yosemite wilderness regulations apply if entering Yosemite National Park.
Closest Towns: Limited services at Lee Vining, full service at Mammoth Lakes
Water: Water from creeks, lakes and springs should be treated before drinking.
Restroom: Vault toilet at trailhead. Please Leave No Trace. Bury human waste away from water sources.

Leave Hwy 395 approx. 7 miles North of Lee Vining. Turn West on Lundy Canyon Rd, trailhead begins 2 miles beyond Lundy Lake Resort.
