Settler's Grove Interpretive Trail #162

This trail offers a hike through an old cedar grove where giant cedar trees date back to when Columbus landed. The trail winds down under the trees crossing West Fork Eagle Creek several times with rustic, wooden footbridges. The lower part of the trail has recently been improved with the addition of a restroom and extended parking area.

At a Glance

Current Conditions: This area experienced significant damage from wildfire in 2015. Hazards you may encounter are unstable trees, falling debris from tops of snags and damaged trees, and unstable ground around burned-out stumps. Please take the following safety precautions when visiting this site:
  • Do not enter the area during high winds!
  • Stay on the trail to reduce your exposure to hazards.
  • Do not linger in areas with fire-damaged trees.
Operational Hours: Open year-around subject to access to trailhead.
Usage: Heavy
Restrictions: Foot traffic only.  No horses, mountain bikes, or motorized vehicles allowed.  Camping is prohibited.

General Information

Directions:

Access #1: From Coeur d'Alene, Idaho drive east on I-90 taking the Kingston Exit #43. After exiting, travel north on Forest Highway 9 (FH9) for 26 miles to Eagle. Turn left onto FR152 and travel northeast 1.3 miles to the junction. Take FR805 (left fork) 5.6 miles to the trailhead.

Access #2: From Wallace, Idaho drive north 16.3 miles over Dobson Pass on FR456 to the junction with FH9. Travel east 1.8 miles on FH9 to the junction. Then turn right and follow Access #1 to the trailhead.
