The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the Callahan-Cecilville Road (County Rd. 1C02) at Carter Summit. The trailhead has a small parking area and a trailhead information kiosk. The Pacific Crest Trail northbound provides access to the Russian Wilderness. The Pacific Crest Trail southbound provides access to the Trinity Alps Wilderness.
Trails into higher elevations may have snow well into June.

Head north for the Russian Wilderness and southeast to the Trinity Alps Wilderness and eventually the Shasta National Forest. There are many side trails for day hikes and beautiful mountain lakes to visit along the way.
Fire Information
A current California Campfire Permit is required to use a camp stove, barbecue or have a campfire outside the developed campground. Local fire restrictions supersede the campfire permit. Inquire at the Ranger Station before having a fire.
