Ponderosa Campground

Ponderosa Campground has 21 campsites along a mountain stream under a canopy of Ponderosa Pine, Oak, Madrone & Sycamore trees approximately 13 miles east from Kirk Creek campground on the Nacimiento-Ferguson Road. The Nacimiento-Ferguson Road runs from the coast at Kirk Creek on Rt. 1 to the Big Sur high country. Recreational Vehicles no longer than 35 feet.

19 sites are reservable. 2 campsites are available first-come, first-serve.

Fees $25.00 per site. 6-8 people per site. (one vehicle is included in the price of the campsite). Extra vehicles are $10 per vehicle per night. Interagency Senior Pass and Interagency Access pass holders are entitled to 50% off of camping only - not valid for day use or extra vehicle fee.

General Information

Directions:

From Salinas take Interstate 101 south and take the Ft. Hunter Liggett exit. Then go 17.5 miles to the junction with Mission Road. From Interstate 101 south, take exit #252 and take county road G18, 21.7 miles to the junction at Mission Road. From the junction proceed 3.2 from the junction to Naciemento Ferguson Road and turn left. It is 12 miles to Ponderosa CG from this point.


General Notes:

Policy on Pet Dogs

Always keep your dog leashed, except when inside a vehicle, tent, dog crate, or portable kennel. Do not allow your dog to wander freely, pursuant to Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 36, Chapter II, Sec. 261.8 (d).

While on a trail or in and around campgrounds and picnic areas, dogs must be kept on a leash (unless caged or crated) no longer than six feet, pursuant to CFR, Title 36, Chapter II, Sec. 261.16 (j).

Dogs must wear a collar with current tags at all times, as state and county laws apply on National Forest System lands.
