McClellan Trailhead

This trailhead accesses the nonmotorized McClellan Mountain Trail, #216. The trail is in a semi-primitive roadless area allowing hikers a great place to get away and enjoy a quiet place to hike.  The trail leads hikers to Fields Peak as well as McClellan Mountain and connects over to the Riley Creek Trail #216A.

Current Conditions: 05/24/2021: The trailhead is open, however, the area may be unreachable due to snow, mud and ice. Pack it in/Pack it out- anything you bring with you into the forest, please take home with you. This includes packing out all trash, yours and others. Examples: cigarette butts, cans, bottles, and food. Please follow local and state health guidelines.

General Information


From John Day, OR, travel west approximately 18 miles on Highway 26 to the junction with Forest Road 21.  Drive south on Forest Road 21, approximately 4.5 miles to the junction with Forest Road 115.  Proceed east on Forest Road 115 approximately 1/2 mile to the junction with Forest Road 2160. Travel south on Forest Road 2160 approximately 1/4 mile to the junction with Forest Road 2160-041. Continue traveling south on 2160-041 to the trailhead.
