Lake and Pond Fishing

The Snowy Range provides plentiful lake fishing opportunities; from boat ramps at Rob Roy and Lake Owen reservoirs to alpine lakes off of the Snowy Range Scenic Byway. Many lakes are stocked by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. A variety of game fish are plentiful on the Snowy Range. These include Brook, Brown, Rainbow, Cutthroat and Golden trout; Grayling and Splake (a hybrid cross between a male brook trout and female lake trout).

Pole Mountain, located between Laramie and Cheyenne, is a popular fishing destination. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department annually stocks Brook trout in the many beaver ponds located in the area.

River and Stream Fishing

Most streams on the Laramie Ranger District support populations of Brook trout, and many streams also support Brown and Rainbow trout populations.
