Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District Office


The Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District includes about 500,000 acres of the Routt National Forest, and terrain ranges from sagebrush flats to forested mountains. There are a wide variety of year-round recreation opportunities available to visitors. The Ranger District office is in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Operational Hours: The Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District Office in Steamboat Springs, Colo., is open on a limited basis beginning Friday, May 19, the office will temporarily be staffed during these hours only:
  • Monday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Tuesday 1-4 p.m 
  • Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • **If purchasing a permit, please arrive no later than 3:30 p.m. during these temporary hours**
As the District moves back to establishing full-time front desk staff, some of the temporary staff will be volunteers from Friends of Wilderness, therefore the ability to sell Forest product permits or Forest maps and passes will be limited, so the public is encouraged to call the ranger station before stopping by at (970) 870-2299
