Red Creek Campground Sign

Red Creek Campground is a primitive, small campground that sits on top of the Allegheny Plateau and within the Dolly Sods Scenic Area. The climate and plant life here resembles Northern Canada. A stone’s throw from the campground is Dolly Sods Wilderness which offers a unique wilderness hiking opportunity for those looking for adventure. This area features unique scenery and unusual plant communities. Flowering laurel, rhododendron and azaleas highlight this area from May through June. Huckleberry picking is popular during the month of July. And for those looking for wildlife, bird banding is performed in late summer and during the fall. Located approximately 20 miles northwest from Petersburg, West Virginia and 24 miles north of Seneca Rocks.

General Information

Directions:

From Petersburg, WV, go south on 28/55 to State Route 4 (Jordan Run Road). Follow SR 4 for one mile and turn left onto Forest Road 19. Follow FR 19 for 6 miles and turn right onto Forest Road 75. Follow FR 75 for 7 miles to the campground.

Activities

Campground Camping

Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, tent pad, and lantern holder.

RV Camping

RV's and trailers are allowed but space is limited. No dump station is available nor any electrical hookups. During busy times of visitation to the area, driving an RV or hauling a trailer can pose a challenge on the road to access the campground due to high traffic levels on the narrow roadway.

Viewing Wildlife

Bird banding is performed in late summer and during the fall.
