Reservoir F Campground


Area Status: Open
Several camp trailers cluster together at Reservoir F campground.

The campsites at Reservoir F are spacious and close to the shoreline.  The early morning sun greets campers from across the lake as the afternoons are shaded by the tall pines.

Restrictions: Water and garbage service are not provided. Bring enough water for drinking, cooking and washing as well as extra water to drown campfires each day. Please take all trash, garbage, fish guts and dog droppings with you when you leave. Dogs on leash only. Please clean up after your dog. Camping limit 14 days.

General Information

Directions:

From Alturas travel west on Hwy 299, 3 miles. Turn north on Crowder Flat Rd/County Road 73, and travel 9.6 miles to Forest Road 43N18. Turn left on 43N18 and continue approximately 20 miles and follow the signs to Reservoir F Campground and Boating Site.
 

Using Hwy 139 north from Hwy 299/Canby area turning east onto Mowitz Rd. and following the signs to Reservoir F is another route one may find useful.

RV, trailer or tent camping is suitable at Reservoir F.

Fire Information Fires are permitted only in fireplaces provided. Gathering of dead and down wood is permitted.

Lake and Pond Fishing

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks Reservoir F seasonally with trout. All California fishing laws apply and all anglers over the age of 16 must have a valid fishing license in possession.

Special Designations There is no fish cleaning station. Please clean fish away from the lake, water faucets and restrooms and take with you all fish guts as well as your personal trash and dog droppings.
Fishing Mode Fishing is from the bank, in boats or by wading.

Viewing Wildlife

Many conservation groups have provided nesting and water-way areas within the Devil's Garden providing a welcome relief to many migratory birds.

Also, within the Modoc National Forest is the Basin and Range Birding Trail with stops in many of our campgrounds.

Picnicking

Day use and picnicking are permitted at Reservoir F Campground. There is no fee and reservations are not accepted. All sites are first come, first served. Day users must exit the campground and the area by 10 pm.

Scenic Driving

The Modoc Backcountry Discovery Trail, a 200 mile segment of the statewide system, runs past Reservoir F.  This vehicle trail has 22 Discovery Points, covers an altitude change of 4,300 to 7,600 feet and covers an area from the California/Oregon border at it's eastern end all the way to the Lava Beds National Monument to the west.

Boating - Non-Motorized

A boat ramp is located at the entrance to the campground.  Canoe and kayak use is a great way for sighting migratory waterfowl along the shoreline.  Please do not disturb nesting birds.
