Mill Creek Trail


Area Status: Open

Mill Creek Trail is located well above the eastern end of Clear Lake.  Access is via the Poison Flat Trail which starts at the southern edge of Clear Lake, up and out towards the south east.  Once out of Clear Lake, Poison Flat Trail levels out and begins to cross Poison Flats where Mill Creek Trail connects and heads to the north.  From the Mill Creek/Clear Lake area, one may connect with Summit Trail and East Creek Trail.  Horses and pack stock are not permitted at Mill Creek Campground.

Current Conditions: 5/16/2022: Trail is good from campground to falls, unknown beyond.
Fees: No fee.
Restrictions: When parking overnight or for extended periods at trailheads always secure all food, packaging and ice chests in the trunk of your vehicle. Do not park in front of gates or partially obstruct a fire road.

Activities

Day Hiking

Day hikes from the Mill Creek include 1/2 mile up hill hike to Mill Creek Falls.  For a longer hike, continue on to Clear Lake and take the trail around the lake.  Total milage back to the campground is 2 1/2 miles.

Permit: Wilderness permits are not required for day hikes or overnight trips into the South Warner Wilderness.

Backpacking

Mill Creek Trail is 8.36 miles. Fairly flat along Mill Creek until close to Poison Flat. Water and campsites available along trail. Fishing is good. Easy access from Soup Springs Trailhead and Campground which has a corral and hitching post.
 

Fire Information A current California Campfire Permit is required to use a camp stove, barbecue or have a campfire outside of developed areas. Local fire restrictions supersede the campfire permit. Inquire at the Ranger Station before having a fire.
