Reservoir C Campground

Close to the boat ramp and right on the water, campsites at Reservoir C are quiet, scenic and partly shady.

A recommended spot for Amateur Astronomers.  Light polution is non-existant.

General Information

Directions:

From Alturas travel west on Hwy 299, 3 miles. Turn north on Crowder Flat Rd/County Road 73, and travel 9.6 miles to Forest Road 43N18. Turn left on 43N18 and continue approximately 7 miles and follow the signs to Reservoir C Campground.

Activities

Campground Camping

Whether in an RV or tenting, this campground is one of the Devil's Garden's  best.

Lake and Pond Fishing

Fishing the shoreline at Reservoir C is great. There are some sites where you can fish right in your own camp. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks Reservoir C seasonally with trout. All California fishing laws apply and all anglers over the age of 16 must have a valid fishing license in possession.

Special Designations There is no fish cleaning station. Please clean fish away from the lake and restrooms and remove all fish guts with your trash when you leave. Do not bury fish guts or dump them in the lake.
Fishing Mode Fishing is from the bank, in boats or by wading.
 
Water Temperature Water temperature is very cold even in summer especially in the deeper parts of the lake.

Viewing Wildlife

Any location within the Modoc National Forest is ideal for viewing migratory birds as this is a great stop-over along the Pacific Fly-way (Western US Fly-way).  Conservation groups have managed many nesting and water-way areas within the Devil's Garden area.

Picnicking

Day use and picnicking are permitted at Reservoir C Campground. There is no fee and reservations are not accepted. All sites are first come, first served. Day users must exit the campground and the area by 10 pm.

Fire Information Fires are permitted only in fireplaces provided. Gathering of dead and down wood is permitted.

Scenic Driving

The Modoc Backcountry Discovery Trail, a 200 mile segment of the statewide system, runs past Reservoir C.  This vehicle trail has 22 Discovery Points, covers an altitude change of 4,300 to 7,600 feet and covers an area from the California/Oregon border at it's eastern end all the way to the Lava Beds National Monument to the west.

Boating - Motorized

A boat ramp is located adjacent to the campground entrance.

Boating - Non-Motorized

Canoe or kayak use on this lake is an ideal way to scout the shoreline.
