Dispersed Camping

Recreation areas with activity Dispersed Camping:

A Forest Order will close Forest Road 2630 and associated roads (2630-240, 2630-019, 2630-270, 2630-015) to all motor vehicle use in 2020.  The dispersed camping area surrounding the lake will be open from sunrise to sunset for day use and day use visitors will be able to walk to the shoreline for fishing, picnicking and other activities. Overnight camping and campfires are prohibited.  Clear Lake Campground and Overflow Campground will remain open to camping and campfires.

This motor vehicle, camping and campfire closure is being put into place to prevent further natural resource damage in the area and to address public health and safety problems caused by improper disposal of human waste, trash, and irresponsible drug and alcohol use. Motor vehicles were also improperly driving into the lake and onto the shoreline damaging natural resources including water quality.

The Forest Service plans to restore and rehabilitate some of the impacts this area has sustained as a result of heavy use, and provide some basic recreation amenities such as improved parking, toilets and fire rings once the redevelopment project is complete.  Once restored and improved Clear Lake will be cleaner and safer for all to enjoy.

There are several other lakes with dispersed camping opportunities that the public may want to try while the closure is in place: Laurance Lake, Timothy Lake, & Rock Creek Reservoir.
