This trail enters the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness.  There are outstanding views near Huckleberry Mountain.

This trail begins mid-way down East Grove Ave in the town of Welches and ends at its junction with Plaza Trail #783.  From Bridge Street in Welches the trail generally follows Cheeney Creek to the northwest side for approximately 1.6 miles.  The trail climbs 3.2 miles to the junction with Plaza Trail #783.  Visitors can return on the same route or make a shuttled hike by turning right onto Plaza Trail #783 and following it to Boulder Ridge Trail #783A.  Follow #783A to its end near Wildwood.

Directions:

From Portland, OR - Follow US Hwy 26 17.3 miles east of Sandy. Turn south on E. Welches Road and follow it 1.9 miles to Bridge Street. Take the right onto E. Bridge Street and follow it 0.1 mile, bearing left onto E. Grove Ave.  The trail starts behind a cable on the right side of the road, up an old logging road.  Once that road turns and starts to flatten out, the Bonanza trail goes down off to the left of this old road (look for trail sign on a tree there).
