Area Status: Closed

The Hoodview Campground sits on the shores of Timothy Lake, in the shadow of Oregon's Mt. Hood. The surrounding forest setting offers spectacular views, several trails for exploration and abundant fishing. The boat launch is for registered campers only. Campground is wheelchair accessible and offers 14 barrier-free campsites for tent and RV camping. There are four hike-in campsites available as well.

Reservations: Hoodview Campground is available by reservation only. If spots are available people can still camp, but incoming reservations will limit the number of nights. This site can be reserved by calling Toll Free 1-877-444-6777 (International 518-885-3639 or TDD 877-833-6777) or on-line at www.recreation.gov.

Permit Info: Sno-Park passes are required to park in the winter. Passes are available from DMV, some Forest Service offices, and from local vendors.

General Information


From Sandy, OR, travel east on Highway 26 for approximately 40 miles to Skyline Road (Rd 42). Turn right on Skyline Road, travel south 9 miles. Turn right on FS Road 57, west 2 miles, turn right at the Hood View Campground entrance sign.

Lake and Pond Fishing

Fishing in Timothy lake. Size: 1,388 surface acres, Elevation: 3,227 feet.
Fishing Mode Fly, Spin, Bait
Water Temperature Depth: 45' average depth, 80' maximum depth,
Water/Flow Level Rainbow trout, brook trout, kokanee, cutthroat trout. Trout are stocked in the lake several times a year.

Day Hiking

A hiking trail circles the lake, and the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail passes by the east shore of the lake, leading north to Little Crater Lake Geological Area.

Boating - Motorized

Boating in Timothy Lake. 10 mph speed limit for motorized boats. An artificial lake, it has many developed campgrounds, and is one of a few lakes on the Mt. Hood National Forest that allows motorized boating.
