Fanton Trail #505

  

This trail travels through thick forest, but it has several viewpoints along the way, including the summits of Squaw Mountain and Old Baldy Mountain.

This trail begins at Forest Road 4614-130 (3,560’) and ends at Old Baldy Trail #502 (4,200’).  From Forest Road 4614-130 head east uphill.  The trail reaches the ridge after 0.2 miles.  After 1.4 miles the trail crosses Forest Road 4614-167.  Continue along the ridge heading west a further 1.5 miles to the junction with Old Baldy Trail #502.

General Information

Directions:

From Portland, OR - travel east on US Hwy 26 to Sandy.  Turn right (southwest) on OR Hwy 211 and travel 6.1 miles to OR Hwy 224.  Turn left (southeast) on OR Hwy 224 and travel 8.4 miles to Fall Creek Road.  Turn left onto Fall Creek Road and travel 0.4 mile to Divers Road.  Turn left onto Divers Road and travel 0.3 mile to Squaw Mtn Road.  Follow Squaw Mtn Road, which becomes Forest Road 4614, for approximately 10 miles to the junction with Forest Road 4614-160.  Turn right onto Forest Road 4614-160 and go 0.1 mile to Forest Road 4614-130.  Turn left on Forest Road 4614-130 and travel 0.2 mile to a pullout on the left (approximately 250 feet before Forest Road 4614-140).  The trail starts on the east side of the road.  Accessing the trail at Forest Road 4614-167 offers a good trailhead for those wanting to get to Squaw Mtn.
