Fish Lake Trail #717

This trail is in the Ollalie Lake Scenic Area. The trail passes three beautiful alpine lakes while travelling through several stands of old growth trees.  Fishing on the lakes is usually best early and late in the season.

The trail begins at Lower Lake Campground (4,840’) and ends at Forest Road 4690-120 (4,160’).  From the north end of Lower Lake Campground, the trail heads uphill (northwest) 0.15 mile before descending another 0.15 to Lower Lake.  The trail follows the northeast shore of Lower Lake and continues 0.3 mile to the junction with Lodgepole Trail #706 (4,760’).  The trail continues travelling northwest a further 0.5 mile to the start of a steep descent (4,680’) where the trail descends a series of switchbacks 0.2 mile to the west shore of Fish Lake (4,280’).  The trail follows the shore of Fish Lake for 0.25 mile passing a couple campsites along the way.  At the north end of Fish Lake, a spur trail heading right (east) travels across the outlet to several large, well developed campsites.

Stay left on this trail as it leaves Fish Lake and continue along Squirrel Creek a further 0.25 mile where the trail intersects Forest Road 4600-076 (4,240’).  Cross the road and continue heading north on this trail.  The trail reaches a power line corridor 200’ after crossing the road. The trail beyond the power line corridor has several barriers designed to limit ATV use.  Visitors will need to climb over or walk around them.  Cross the clearing and continue along Squirrel Creek 0.2 mile to the junction with the Surprise Lake trail (approximately 400’).  Stay left on this trail (#717) and head northwest 0.5 mile to the north end of Si Lake (4,160’).  The trail briefly follows the north shore of Si Lake before entering heavy timber including Western Hemlock, Western Larch, Lodgepole pine, Douglas Fir, Pacific Silver Fir and Alaskan Yellow Cedar.  Look for huckleberries and blueberries in this area as well.  After 0.2 mile the trail descends to its end at Forest Road 4690-120 (4,160’).
