Pansy Lake Trail #551

This popular trail enters the Bull of the Woods Wilderness.  The trail provides easy access to the scenic and heavily visited Pansy Basin and Pansy Lake.

The trail climbs approximately 1,000’ in 2 miles and takes hikers to the ridge top beyond the lake.  This trail begins at Forest Road 6341 and ends at Mother Lode Trail #558. Beginning at Forest Road 6341 (3,560’), the trail heads uphill gradually for 0.9 mile to the junction with Dicky Lake Trail #549 (3,960’). The trail continues heading south for 0.3 mile to a junction with a short side trail (on the right) down to Pansy Lake (4,000’). From Pansy Lake, the trail continues to climb on steeper, rockier terrain for 0.7 mile to the trail’s end at the junction with Mother Lode Trail #558 (4,560’).

General Information

Directions:

From Portland, OR - travel east on US Hwy 26 to Sandy.  Turn right (southwest) on OR Hwy 211 and travel 6.1 miles to OR Hwy 224.  Turn left (southeast) on OR Hwy 224 and travel 30.6 miles to Clackamas River Hwy (Forest Road 46) (approximately at milepost 50).  

Take the right fork onto Clackamas River Hwy and travel 3.7 miles to Collowash Road (Forest Road 63). Travel 5.7 miles on Forest Road 63 and turn right onto Forest Road 6340 (Pansy Basin Road). Travel 7.8 miles on Forest Road 6340 and you will come to a fork in the road (6340 and 6341).

Take the right fork (which is still 6341) and follow it for approximately 3.2 miles until you come to the trailhead parking area on the right (south) side of the road (approximately 0.2 mile before the road turns to dirt).  

This popular trailhead has a large parking area.
