Ruddy Hill Trail #714

  

This trail is in the Ollalie Lake Scenic Area.  This is a short, steep side trail from the Pacific Crest Trail #2000 to the summit of Ruddy Hill.  The summit offers spectacular views of Mount Jefferson to the south and Mount Hood to the north.

This trail begins at Pacific Crest Trail #2000 (5,560) and ends at the summit of Ruddy Hill (5,910).  To access this trail, take Horseshoe Saddle Trail #712 (trailhead is at camp site #5 in the Horseshoe Lake Campground) 0.8 mile west to Pacific Crest Trail #2000.  Turn right (northwest) on Pacific Crest Trail #2000 and travel 0.2 mile to the beginning of this trail.  Turn left (west) onto this trail.  The trail begins climbing immediately at a steep grade.  The trail heads northwest for 0.2 mile to the north facing ridge of Ruddy Hill.  The trail heads southwest up the ridge 0.1 mile to the summit of Ruddy Hill.

Directions:

From Portland, OR - travel east on US Hwy 26 to Sandy. Turn right (southwest) on OR Hwy 211 and travel 6.1 miles to OR Hwy 224. Turn left (southeast) on OR Hwy 224 and travel 30.6 miles to Forest Road 46. Turn right on Forest Road 46 and travel 14.8 miles to Forest Road 42. Turn left onto Forest Road 42 and travel 4.3 miles to Forest Road 4220 (Skyline Rd.). Turn right onto Forest Road 4220 and travel 15 miles to Horseshoe Lake Campground. The trail leaves from camp site #5. Follow the trail description to get the beginning of this trail (#714).
