Elk Mountain Vista Trail #647C

  

This short vista trail is in the Mount Hood Wilderness on the east side of Mount Hood.  The vista point shows the remains of an old lookout tower. It begins at Bluegrass Ridge Trail #647 (5,600’) and descends to a viewpoint on Elk Mountain (5,560’).  Looking south from the viewpoint you can see Mount Jefferson and the Three Sisters.  Access from the west by trail 647 & 647B requires a wilderness permit.

Directions:

From Sandy, OR travel approximately 31 miles east on US Hwy 26 to the intersection with Oregon Hwy 35. Turn north onto Oregon Hwy 35 and travel 8.1 miles to the Mt. Hood Meadows Ski area lower access road. Follow Elk Meadows Trail #645 approximately 2.6 miles to the south end of this trail.
