Tamanawas Tie Trail #650B

This trail is on the east side of Mount Hood.  The trail connects Tamanawas Trail #650A and Elk Meadows Trail #645 and offers hikers a 4 mile loop option. This trail begins at Tamanawas Trail #650A (3,350), heads northeast 0.4 mile, and ends at its junction with Elk Meadows Trail #645 (3,560’). From the Tamanawas Falls parking area, cross the East Fork of the Hood River  at the bridge and turn right (north) on the East Fork Trail #650. The trail continues along the west bank of the river for 0.5 mile to a junction with the Tamanawas Falls Trail #650A. Turn left (west) on this trail (#650A) and cross Cold Spring Creek at the bridge and turn left.  From the creek, travel 0.9 mile to the junction with the Tamanawas Tie trail #650B (Tamanawas Falls are 0.2 miles further on Tamanawas Trail #650A).  Turn right on Tamanawas Tie Trail # 650B and head northeast 0.4 mile to the end of the trail Elk Meadows Trail #645.  To make a 4 mile loop, turn right (northeast) on Elk Meadows Trail #645 and descend 1.2 miles to its junction with East Fork Trail #650 (2,960).  Turn right (south) on East Fork Trail #650 and travel 1.5 miles back to the Tamanawas Falls parking area.

Directions:

From Hood River, OR - take Oregon Hwy 35 south for 25 miles to the trailhead and parking area on the west side of the highway (approximately 0.65 mile south of milepost 73). 

From Portland, OR - travel approximately 31 miles east of Sandy on US Hwy 26 to the intersection with Oregon Hwy 35.  Turn north onto Oregon Hwy 35 and travel 15.3 miles.  Turn left (west) to a gravel parking area on west side of highway (approximately 0.35 mile north of milepost 72.)
