Isabella Landing Trailhead

Area Status: Open

This trailhead, located at the junction of Isabella Landing and FS Road 700, offers access to trail 297, the North Fork Downriver Trail.  The 7 mile mainline trail takes visitors into one of our Research Natural Areas, home of many rare plants, and through beautiful fern populations under old growth cedar trees. The trail ends at the lovely Salmon Creek. Motocyclists are allowed on this trail, but ATVs are not.

A couple of streamside campsites are located along the trail for backpackers, etc.

Day Hiking

Trail 297: North Fork Downriver Trail; 7 miles; approx. 3 hours. Easy to moderate trip for hikers and motorcycles, trail follows the Northfork of the Clearwater River. Ends at slack water of Dworshak Reservoir with several pleasant streamside campsites along the route.

Difficulty Level: Easy to Intermediate


Viewing Plants

This trail is one of the few places in the country where one may experience Coastal Disjunct plant specimens as the path takes hikers through our Research Natural Area.

Trail travels alongside the Northfork of the Clearwater River, with stunning views of the corridor.
