Driveway Extension Trail #881

From the trailhead on Santiam-Sourdough Road #492 about 2.4 miles southeast of Sourdough Peak, the trail grade rises moderately in elevation for 2.8 miles. From his point the trail continues on a steep, downhill gradient and junctions with Lost Lake Trail #804 at 3.2 miles. It continues on a downhill grade, crossing a tributary of Twentymile Creek at 3.8 miles, and terminates at its intersection with Twentymile Creek Trail at 3.9 miles. There is no snow removal on Santiam-Sourdough Road, so winter use of the trail is not practical. It is a good trail for hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding on a day trip or longer basis using other trails in the area. The distance to Lost Lake from the trailhead on Road #492 is 3.7 miles.

Directions: From Highway 14 (15 miles west of Elk City), turn south on Santiam-Sourdough Road #492 and follow the road for 23.9 miles to the intersection with Driveway Extension Trail #881 at a small undeveloped campsite.


Day Hiking

Hike to Lost Lake - 3.7 miles. An alternate route to Anderson Butte.
