Lemhi Trail #212
Also known as "Gaines Trail." From the trailhead on Blowout Trail #211, the Lemhi Trail heads southeast through open lodgepole pine, straddling a ridge. At mile 1.5, Blowout Divide Trail #234 branches off to the southwest. Blowout Mountain, the highest point on the trail, is located just past this junction. At mile 3, Swastika Trail #233 branches off to the north, while Lemhi Trail stays along the ridge top. Views into the Salmon River canyon are plentiful as the trail begins to descend through mature Douglas-fir stands and out into the open ponderosa pine-covered breaks. At mile 5, the trail crosses the wilderness boundary and enters the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. As the trail gets closer to the river, it steepens and begins to switchback and drop nearly 3,000 feet in less than four miles. The trail ends at its junction with the Salmon River Trail #96.
