Bargamin Creek Trail #502 (North)

From the trailhead on Road #285, the Bargamin Creek trail contours around a low hill and comes out on a major ridge running to the south. The ridge is wide for the first 1.5 miles with multiple trail treads. An old road of sorts used many years ago. The ridge is covered with thick lodgepole pine stands, but an occasional opening offers a quick glimpse of Burnt Knob lookout to the southeast. The trail drops steadily along this ridge until it levels out along the creek. As it continues south along the creek, the trail passes through a series of alpine meadows. At mile 4.5, there are two bog holes which have proven difficult to cross with pack stock. It would be advisable to check this area before taking a string through it. The non-wilderness portion of the trail ends on the north edge of Poet Creek campground. From here, it is a mere 200 feet west of the campground along Road #468 to the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness boundary and the trailhead for the wilderness portion of Bargamin Creek Trail #502.
