Blowout Divide Trail #234

The Blowout Divide Trail begins south of Dixie, Idaho, on Mammoth Mine Road #222-F, which should be traveled with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. From the trailhead, the trail follows along a ridge, the divide between Crooked Creek to the north and Blowout Creek to the south. The ridge is covered with thickets of lodgepole pine as the trail begins and opens up occasionally in patches of ceanothus brush within the first mile. The trail climbs between mile 1 and 2, and at its first break, a view into the Salmon River canyon is available. After this rise, the trail breaks over to contour the north side of the ridge and climbs again through open stands of mature lodgepole to its junction with Lemhi Trail #212, a quarter mile below the top of Blowout Mountain. Combined with other trails, the Blowout Divide trail offers several loop trips (see information for Blowout Mountain Trail #211, Lemhi Trail #212, and Swastika Trail #233).
