The trailhead is at the junction with Parallel Trail #668, in a thick lodgepole stand. The trail heads northeast and reaches its highest point, within the first half mile. After this point, the trail levels and meanders through beargrass to another point, then begins to descend Matteson Ridge. The trail is a downhill grade all the way to the end of the ridge and the end of the trail, a point 1600 feet above the banks of Meadow Creek.
